Industrial thermal-transfer label printer printing at 8 ips with 203 dpi resolution and 4.65" maximum label width, featuring parallel and serial interfaces
The Datamax DMX-I-4208 is an industrial thermal transfer and direct thermal printer built for continuous label production. It suits logistics, manufacturing and warehousing teams that need reliable 4.65-inch wide output at 8 inches per second.
The print mechanism uses heat rather than ink or toner, so there are no cartridges to replace and no liquid components to leak. The internal supply accepts 115 to 230 VAC at 45 to 65 Hz, allowing the unit to run on standard mains power worldwide without an external adapter.
Interfaces include IEEE 1284 parallel and RS-232 DB25 serial ports, letting the printer slot into older ERP, WMS or custom host systems that lack USB or network ports. The rugged metal chassis withstands dusty, vibration-prone environments where consumer-grade devices would fail.

Use a standard IEEE 1284 parallel cable between the printer's DB25 port and the PC. Install the Datamax driver first, then set the PC port to ECP mode so the handshake works at 8 ips.
The printhead and platen roller are the main consumables. Replace the printhead when print quality fades at 203 dpi, and the roller when labels slip or show uneven darkness.
The printhead thermal cycle is the first limit. At 203 dpi and 8 ips the head reaches its duty-cycle pause after extended runs, so the printer inserts cool-down gaps to protect the element.
