Single-phase universal AC/DC motor delivers 1/15 hp at 5000 rpm from a 115 V supply
This Dayton 2M057 universal motor runs on 115 V AC at 60 Hz and delivers 1/15 hp at a nameplate speed of 5000 rpm. It is a single-speed, single-phase unit with a 5/16 in. shaft and CCWSE rotation, suited for compact equipment that needs a lightweight drive. The open enclosure and Class A insulation allow operation up to 40 °C ambient temperature.
At full load the motor draws 1.2 A and provides a service factor of 1, so it has no built-in overload margin beyond the rated output. It is not usable at 200 V or 208 V, limiting it to 115 V supplies only. The design suits intermittent or light continuous duty where the load stays within the modest horsepower rating.
The jump is worthwhile when an application needs higher speed or a standard 5/16 in. shaft in a non-standard frame, and the 115 V supply is fixed. It does not suit installations that require thermal protection, a different voltage, or a NEMA frame mount. Builders needing reversible rotation or enclosed construction should look elsewhere.
