Dayton 3K199 Capacitor-Start Belt Drive Motor 1/2 HP 115/230V 56 Frame

SKU CH-GERG-WZB84

A 1/2 HP capacitor-start belt-drive motor for fans and blowers, running at 725 RPM on 115/230V AC with a 56 frame and automatic thermal protection

  • Product typeClosed Base
  • Capacitor-start design delivers strong starting torque for belt-driven fans
  • 1/2 HP output at 1,725 RPM powers residential and light-commercial blowers
  • Dual-voltage 115/230 V AC wiring suits existing 115 V or 230 V circuits
  • Open drip-proof enclosure with auto thermal protection runs continuously at 40 °C ambient
  • NEMA 56 frame with cradle base fits standard 56-frame mounting patterns

Motor type and voltage

The Dayton 3K199 is a single-phase capacitor-start motor rated at 1/2 hp. It operates on 115/230V AC at 60/50 Hz and fits a 56 frame. The open drip-proof enclosure and steel frame suit fan and blower installations where a cradle-base mount is required.

Mounting and protection features

The cradle-base design allows all-angle mounting, and the closed-base construction supports stable installation. Auto thermal protection and a 1.25 service factor help the motor handle continuous duty. Insulation class B and a maximum ambient temperature of 40 degrees C define the thermal envelope.

Electrical and speed limits

Nameplate speed is fixed at 725 RPM with a single-speed design. Full-load current draws 7.7 A at 115V or 3.8 A at 230V. Rotation is reversible between CW and CCW. The 56 frame and voltage range set the practical boundaries for replacement or new-build applications.

Questions about this item

Will the 56 frame motor bearings need periodic relubrication or eventual replacement?

The open drip proof enclosure and continuous duty rating mean the bearings are accessible for scheduled relubrication; plan on replacement when vibration or temperature rise indicates wear.

What is the first limit reached during sustained operation at full load?

Continuous duty at 1.25 service factor is bounded by the 40 °C maximum ambient temperature; exceeding it trips the automatic thermal protection before any other limit.

How much heat and noise does the 1/2 hp motor produce when running all day?

At 725 RPM the open drip proof design dissipates heat directly to the surroundings, so expect noticeable fan noise and a warm frame under continuous load.
