Thermal overload relay protects motors with adjustable 63-80 A range and Trip Class 10 response
The Dayton 6ECA2 is a three-pole thermal overload relay designed to protect motors by interrupting the circuit when current exceeds the set threshold. It offers an adjustable trip range from 63 A minimum to 80 A maximum, suitable for industrial control panels and automation systems. The unit mounts directly to a contactor and complies with IEC 60947-4-1, CSA and UL Listed standards. Trip Class 10 provides a standard response time for general-purpose motor loads.
Thermal overload protection reacts to sustained overcurrent by heating an internal element, so the relay trips without external power or electronic sensors. Trip Class 10 defines the maximum tripping time at 7.2 times the current setting, giving predictable behaviour during motor start-up. The device carries both 1NO and 1NC auxiliary contacts for signalling or interlocking. Auto and manual reset modes let maintenance staff choose the recovery method after a fault.
Direct-to-contactor mounting eliminates separate DIN-rail hardware and reduces panel wiring time. The compact body measures 4.29 in deep, 2.75 in wide and 2.12 in high, fitting tight enclosures. California Proposition 65 warnings apply because the product contains listed chemicals, a factor for installers in regulated jurisdictions. No additional accessories or software are bundled with this relay.

It mounts direct to the contactor; the step often missed is verifying the contactor matches the relay's 3-pole IEC frame before tightening the mounting screws.
The thermal element may drift over time; plan to recalibrate or replace the relay if nuisance trips appear after extended service.
The thermal element reaches its Trip Class 10 curve first, opening the 1NO/1NC auxiliary contacts to protect the motor circuit.
