Silver 2.5 inch SAS hard drive with Dell label

DELL

DELL 0X162K 146GB 15000RPM SAS 2.5" internal hard drive

SKU CH-BF1J-8R7TE MPN 0X162K

146 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drive with 16 MB cache in a 2.5 inch internal form factor

  • 146 GB capacity stores critical server data
  • 15 000 RPM spindle delivers rapid transaction throughput
  • SAS interface ensures reliable enterprise connectivity
  • 16 MB cache buffers burst I/O workloads
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense blade chassis

High-speed SAS storage for servers

This 146 GB drive spins at 15 000 RPM and connects through a SAS interface. It is built for servers that need quick access to relatively small data sets. The 2.5 inch form factor fits standard hot-swap bays in rack or tower chassis.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

At 15 000 RPM the spindle generates more heat and audible whine than slower drives, so adequate chassis airflow is required. Power draw rises during random seeks but remains within typical limits for enterprise 2.5 inch SAS units.

What the bundle changes

The drive ships as a bare unit; retail or OEM packing may vary and no cables, rails or software are included. Installers must supply their own SAS data and power cables plus any mounting hardware the server requires.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive in a server bay and which step is often missed?

Slide the 2.5" unit into a SAS backplane until the connector seats firmly; the step often missed is securing the retention latch or screw so vibration at 15000RPM cannot unseat the drive.

What maintenance or replacement will the 146GB 15K SAS drive need later?

No scheduled maintenance is required; replacement is needed only if the mechanical HDD develops read errors or bearing noise after extended 15000RPM operation.

What limit appears first on the 16MB cache SAS drive during sustained writes?

The 16MB cache fills quickly, so sustained throughput drops to the native 15000RPM media rate once the buffer is exhausted.
