Silver 2.5 inch SAS hard drive with green circuit board visible

DELL

DELL 1.2TB 2.5" SAS 10000RPM 64MB T6TWN laptop hard drive

SKU CH-V25E-VHAEN

A 2.5 inch SAS drive with 1.2TB capacity, 10000RPM speed and 64MB cache for PowerEdge and PowerVault systems

  • 2TB capacity stores large datasets on a single drive
  • 10,000RPM spindle speed accelerates data access
  • SAS 6Gb/s interface enables fast host transfers
  • 64MB cache buffers bursts for smoother I/O
  • 5-inch form factor fits standard laptop and server bays

1.2 TB SAS drive for Dell servers

This 2.5 inch hard drive delivers 1.2 TB of storage with a 10000 RPM spindle and 64 MB cache. It uses a SAS 6 Gb/s interface and is built for Dell PowerEdge and PowerVault systems. The drive targets administrators who need high-speed mechanical storage in compatible 2.5 inch bays.

SAS 6 Gb/s interface limits cable length

The SAS connection supports 6 Gb/s signalling, which restricts maximum cable runs compared to slower standards. It requires a backplane or controller with matching SAS ports; SATA-only controllers will not negotiate the link. Buyers who need longer external cables or SATA-only host adapters cannot use this drive without additional hardware.

Enterprise build with hot-plug carrier for rack

The drive ships in a Dell hot-plug carrier designed for tool-less insertion into 2.5 inch server bays. Its 10000 RPM motor and SAS interface are rated for continuous operation in multi-drive arrays. The carrier mounting means it fits only Dell PowerEdge or PowerVault chassis with the correct drive tray; it will not mount in standard laptop caddies or desktop cages.

Questions about this item

Should I choose the 1.2TB 2.5 inch SAS drive or a different capacity?

The listed drive is a single 1.2TB model with a 10000RPM spindle and 64MB cache, so there is no other capacity or speed variant to select from this listing.

What does the 10000RPM speed mean for actual performance in a laptop?

A 10000RPM spindle reduces rotational latency and raises sustained transfer rates compared with slower laptop drives, while the 64MB cache helps absorb burst workloads.

How does the SAS 6Gb/s interface limit real-world throughput?

The SAS 6Gb/s link sets the maximum bus transfer rate, so sustained reads and writes cannot exceed that interface ceiling regardless of the drive’s internal speed.
