Dell 1.8TB 10K SAS drive

This new Dell internal hard drive provides 1.8TB of storage on a 2.5 inch form factor. It spins at 10K RPM and connects via a 12Gbps SAS interface using 512e formatting. The unit is supplied in retail or OEM packaging with firmware updated.

Suits servers needing 12Gbps SAS storage

This drive fits servers and arrays that accept 2.5 inch 12Gbps SAS drives with 512e sector emulation. It is not for systems that require a different physical size or a different interface protocol. Buyers needing higher capacity per drive or a non-SAS connection should consider other options.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5 inch SAS drive in a Dell server tray and what step is often missed?

Slide the 2.5 inch drive into the hot-plug carrier until the connector seats firmly on the 12Gbps SAS backplane, then secure the latch; the step often missed is pushing the carrier fully home so the SAS port engages completely.

What maintenance or replacement will the 1.8TB 10K SAS drive need later?

The 10K rpm mechanical drive may eventually require replacement if SMART reallocated-sector counts rise or bearing noise appears; no user-serviceable parts exist, so plan a swap to another 1.8TB 512e SAS unit when health thresholds are reached.
