Refurbished 15.6" mobile workstation

The Dell Precision M5510 is a refurbished 15.6-inch mobile workstation with an Intel Core i7-6820HQ quad-core processor at 2.70 GHz, 16 GB of memory and a 512 GB SSD. It runs Windows 10 Pro and uses an NVIDIA Quadro M1000M graphics card with 2 GB of dedicated video memory on a 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display.

Suits CAD and ISV users; not for memory expansion

This unit suits engineers and designers who need certified drivers for CAD or ISV applications in a thin 0.45-inch silver chassis weighing between 3 and 3.9 lbs. Buyers who need more than 16 GB of RAM should look elsewhere because the memory slots are fully populated and the platform maximum is 16 GB. The non-backlit keyboard and 3-cell battery also limit appeal for low-light or all-day unplugged work.

16 GB soldered memory ceiling

The single specification that decides fit is the 16 GB memory ceiling with zero available slots, so the configuration cannot be upgraded beyond the factory-installed amount.

Questions about this item

How long will the 512 GB SSD last before I need to replace it?

The 512 GB solid-state drive has no moving parts, so it typically outlasts mechanical drives. Under normal workloads it can run for many years; heavy write cycles will shorten its lifespan, but no fixed replacement interval is defined by the manufacturer.

What stops the Quadro M1000M from running flat-out during long renders?

The 2 GB dedicated video memory and the laptop's thermal envelope limit sustained GPU performance. When the 3-cell battery and cooling system reach their capacity, the card throttles to protect itself.

How loud and hot does the Precision M5510 get when I leave it on all day?

The 15.6-inch chassis with a 3-cell lithium-ion battery and non-backlit keyboard runs warm under continuous load. Fan noise rises as the Quadro M1000M and i7-6820HQ push the thermal limits of the thin 0.45-inch profile.
