Refurbished OptiPlex 990 Tower for Office Work

This refurbished Dell OptiPlex 990 tower houses an Intel Core i7-2600 quad-core processor running at 3.4 GHz with 8 MB L3 cache. It comes with 4 GB of DDR3 memory and a 250 GB SATA hard drive spinning at 7200 RPM. Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is pre-installed, making it ready for legacy business applications and general administrative tasks. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000 handles basic display output without a discrete card.

Tower Chassis with Standard Business Connectivity

The black mini-tower form factor provides internal expansion room for additional drives or cards. Front and rear panels include USB ports for the supplied keyboard and mouse as well as other peripherals. A DVD optical drive is fitted for media installation or archival. Gigabit Ethernet gives a wired network link, while integrated audio covers conferencing needs. No monitor is included, so a separate display must be sourced.

Check Compatibility Before Ordering

Verify that your existing display has a VGA, DVI or DisplayPort input to match the integrated graphics outputs. Ensure any planned memory upgrades use DDR3 modules only, as other generations will not fit. The 250 GB drive may require supplementation for users with large local data sets. Buyers needing modern operating-system support or higher multi-threaded performance should consider alternative hardware.

Questions about this item

What SATA standard does the 250 GB 7200 RPM drive use, and what practical throughput ceiling does that impose?

The drive uses the SATA interface, which in practice caps sustained transfer rates at the SATA revision supported by the OptiPlex 990 chipset.

What physical space and mounting does the tower chassis require for a drive upgrade?

The mini-tower accepts standard 3.5-inch SATA drives mounted in the internal drive bays with tool-less rails or screws.

How is the DDR3 memory installed, and which step is commonly missed?

Insert the DDR3 DIMMs into the motherboard slots until the retention clips click; the step often missed is pressing firmly on both ends to fully seat the module.
