3.84TB SAS 2.5" RI SSD for Dell servers

This 3.84TB SAS solid-state drive uses a 2.5-inch form factor and a 12G interface. It is built for read-intensive workloads in Dell PowerEdge servers. The drive ships with a compatible caddy for direct installation.

Sustained write behaviour under read-intensive

The RI endurance rating means the drive is optimised for workloads with far more reads than writes. Write throughput will remain steady while the controller manages background garbage collection. Heavy, continuous write streams will see reduced performance compared with mixed-use or write-intensive models.

Thermals noise and power in normal operation

As a solid-state device with no moving parts, the drive produces no acoustic noise. Heat output stays low during typical read-heavy server duties. Power draw scales with active I/O and remains within the limits of the 12G SAS backplane.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 3.84TB SAS 12G drive draw during sustained operation?

The drive is a read-intensive enterprise SSD with a SAS 12G interface; typical active power for this class is around 5 to 7 watts, and idle power drops below 2 watts.

What server backplane or controller is required to install this 2.5-inch SAS SSD?

It fits any 2.5-inch SAS hot-plug bay with a 12G backplane and a compatible Dell PERC or HBA controller; the included caddy matches the listed PowerEdge models.

Will the 3.84TB SAS 12G SSD work in a PowerEdge R710 that currently runs 6G drives?

Yes, the drive is backward compatible with 6G SAS backplanes in the R710; it will negotiate 6G speed and operate normally with the supplied caddy.
