DELL 3.84TB SAS Hybrid Drive

This 3.84TB SAS hybrid drive fits 2.5-inch bays and connects at 12G speeds. It ships with a compatible Dell caddy for direct installation in supported PowerEdge servers. The drive targets read-intensive workloads such as boot, logging and caching tiers. Condition is new.

Replaces slower SAS HDDs or smaller SSDs

Moving from mechanical SAS disks to this hybrid drive cuts latency for metadata and transaction logs. The jump is worthwhile when random read IOPS matter more than sequential throughput. Servers running mixed read/write workloads that exceed the drive's write endurance should evaluate write-intensive alternatives instead.

3.84TB capacity for read-heavy datasets

The drive comfortably holds OS images, hypervisor boot volumes and large read caches for databases. Write-heavy OLTP logs or sustained sequential ingest will exhaust the endurance budget faster. Capacity headroom remains ample for multi-year log retention in typical read-intensive deployments.

Questions about this item

Does the 2.5 inch SAS drive include a caddy for the R740 server?

Yes, a compatible Dell caddy is supplied and fits the R740 as well as the R640, R740XD and R740XD2 models.

What is the common mistake when installing this 12G SAS SSD into a PowerEdge chassis?

Inserting the drive without fully seating the caddy latch so the SAS connector does not engage properly.

How often should the 3.84TB RI hybrid drive be monitored for wear?

Check SMART wear indicators quarterly; replace the drive once the endurance threshold reported by the controller is reached.
