Dell 3397M 480GB SATA Enterprise SSD

This 2.5-inch drive delivers 480GB of read-intensive TLC storage over a 6Gbps SATA interface. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that require a 7mm SATA SSD in a standard drive bay.

Firmware updated and tested

The unit ships with current firmware already applied and has passed functional testing. That preparation removes the need for a separate update cycle before the drive enters a production array.

Read-intensive TLC endurance

The drive is rated for read-intensive workloads, so it suits workloads such as boot, logging or content delivery where writes are light. It is not intended for write-heavy databases or mixed-use volumes that demand higher endurance.

Questions about this item

How often will the TLC NAND in the 3397M 480GB drive need replacement under read-intensive workloads?

The drive is built for read-intensive use, so the TLC NAND wears slowly and typically lasts the server's service life without replacement.

Which limit appears first during sustained reads on the 6Gbps SATA interface of the 3397M?

The 6Gbps SATA link saturates before the SE5110 controller reaches its internal throughput ceiling.

What heat and power impact should I expect from the 7mm 2.5" 3397M running all day in a PowerEdge R740?

The slim 7mm form factor draws modest power and generates low heat, keeping thermal load minimal in 24/7 operation.
