What the card is and who it fits

The Dell 405-AAES is a 12Gb/s SAS host bus adapter built for servers that need external storage connectivity. Its low-profile form factor suits dense chassis where full-height cards will not fit. It targets administrators adding JBODs or tape libraries to existing infrastructure.

Behaviour under sustained load

The adapter is rated for up to 1x better IOPS per watt, helping maintain throughput during prolonged virtualized or cloud workloads. Advanced management features reduce the time spent installing and monitoring the controller across large deployments.

Deciding specification

The single figure that determines fit is the 12Gb/s SAS interface; the card only speaks that protocol to external enclosures. Buyers who need a different host interface or internal port connectivity cannot use this part.
