Adds four Gigabit RJ45 ports to compatible PowerEdge servers via a quad-port Broadcom 5719 adapter
This Dell 540-BBGX adapter adds four RJ45 ports running at 10, 100 or 1000 Mbps to compatible PowerEdge servers. It uses a Broadcom 5719 controller on a PCIe x4 interface and fits a low-profile slot. The card is validated for Dell systems and supported by Dell Technical Support when installed in a Dell server.
Four independent Gigabit ports allow the adapter to maintain aggregate throughput across multiple simultaneous connections without relying on a single-port burst. The PCIe x4 host interface provides sufficient bandwidth to keep all ports active under continuous load. Dell validation confirms stable operation in the listed PowerEdge models during extended production use.
Confirm the target server appears in the supported PowerEdge list, which includes R220, R320, R420, R420XR, R430, R520, R530, R620, R720, R720XD, R820, R920 and R930. Ensure a free PCIe x4 or larger slot with the correct bracket height is available. This card is not suited for systems outside the validated Dell lineup or for installations requiring fibre or 10 GbE connectivity.

The card uses a PCIe x4 slot and a low-profile bracket, so it draws power from the server board without needing an extra power cable; Dell validated thermals inside the listed PowerEdge chassis.
An available PCIe x4 (or larger) slot and one of the compatible PowerEdge models such as R220, R320, R420, R430, R520, R530, R620, R720, R720XD, R820, R920 or R930.
Yes, each RJ45 port auto-negotiates down to 10 or 100Mbps, so existing Cat5 or Cat5e patch cables and older switches work without configuration changes.
