Dual-port 1000Base-T network card with two RJ-45 connections for server installation via PCI Express
The Dell 540-BBGY adds two 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 ports to a server through a single PCI Express slot. It is built for IT teams that need redundant copper links or separate traffic lanes on a 1GbE fabric.
The full-height plug-in card draws power directly from the bus and relies on the chassis airflow for cooling. No auxiliary power connector is required, so acoustic impact stays at the level of the host server fans.
The onboard Broadcom 5720 controller handles both ports with hardware offloads that reduce host CPU cycles during steady traffic. Driver support across major server operating systems simplifies deployment in homogeneous or mixed-OS racks.

Power off the server, open the chassis, insert the full-height card firmly into an available PCI Express slot, secure the bracket screw, connect twisted-pair cables to both RJ-45 ports, then power on and configure the 10/100/1000Base-T links in the OS.
The card has no moving parts; keep the server air filters clean so dust does not block airflow through the heatsink, and replace the unit only if a port fails or the server is upgraded to faster networking.
Each port tops out at 1000 Mbps, so the combined ceiling is 2 Gbps; the PCI Express host interface and the 10/100/1000Base-T PHYs set the hard limit before any server bottleneck.
