Quad-port SFP+ adapter delivers four 10 Gbps Ethernet links over a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot
This new Dell network interface card adds four 10 Gbps SFP+ ports through a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot. It is built as a daughter card for compatible Dell servers that need additional high-speed Ethernet connectivity.
IT teams adding multiple 10 Gbps connections to a qualified Dell server will use all four ports. Buyers who only need one or two ports will leave capacity unused, while anyone requiring a different port count, another form factor, or a card validated for non-Dell platforms should look elsewhere.
The card occupies a single x8 slot running at the 3.0 generation. Verify that the target server provides an available x8 slot and that the system BIOS supports this daughter card before purchase.

You need four SFP+ modules or DAC cables rated for 10 Gbps Ethernet; the card provides only the cages, so each port requires its own transceiver or cable to link to a switch or server.
Each slot negotiates its own link width and speed, so the 57840S will run at PCI-E 3.0 x8 while the older HBA stays at PCI-E 2.0 x8 without stealing lanes from the network card.
Each port has a link/activity LED; solid green means a 10 Gbps link is established and blinking shows traffic, so four steady greens indicate all ports are live.
