Dell 745GC 300 GB SAS drive

The Dell 745GC is a 300 GB 2.5 inch internal hard drive with a 6.0 Gbps SAS interface, 64 MB cache and 10 000 rpm spindle speed. It ships mounted in a PowerEdge R and T series tray for direct installation in compatible Dell servers. The drive is supplied new in retail or OEM packaging.

Suited for Dell PowerEdge R and T bays

This drive fits administrators replacing a failed unit or adding capacity to Dell PowerEdge R and T series servers that accept 2.5 inch SAS trays. It is not suitable for systems that lack a SAS backplane or the correct drive carrier, nor for workloads needing solid-state latency or capacities beyond 300 GB.

6.0 Gbps SAS interface

The single specification that decides fitment is the 6.0 Gbps SAS connection; the server backplane and controller must support this exact signalling rate and protocol. Without a matching SAS infrastructure the drive will not function, regardless of physical tray compatibility.

Questions about this item

What does the 10K spindle speed mean for everyday use?

The 10K rpm platters lower average latency and raise sustained throughput compared with slower laptop drives, so applications and boot sequences load noticeably quicker.

How does the 6.0 Gbps SAS link affect real-world speed?

The 6.0 Gbps SAS interface provides the connection ceiling, but actual transfer rates are governed by the 10K mechanical media and the host controller.

Will the 2.5-inch form factor with the included tray fit my PowerEdge bay?

The drive ships in a Dell PowerEdge R and T series tray that matches the hot-plug sleds used in those servers, so it slides directly into the standard 2.5-inch bay.
