Fits Dell PowerEdge rack and tower models

The included caddy matches drive bays in the R210 Gen I and II, R220, R230, R300, R310, R320, R330, R410, R415, R420, R430, R510, R520, R530, R530XD, R630, R710, R715, R720, R720XD, R730, R730XD, R900, R905, R920 and R930. A SAS backplane and RAID controller are required for operation.

7.2 K rpm spindle balances heat and power

At the rated spindle speed the drive runs within typical enterprise thermal limits without demanding high airflow. Power draw remains consistent with standard 3.5 inch SAS nearline drives under normal read and write workloads.

Questions about this item

Will the 12 Gb/s SAS interface become the bottleneck during sustained heavy workloads?

The 12 Gb/s SAS link provides high throughput; the practical limit under sustained use is the 7.2K rpm mechanical speed of the drive itself.

How much noise and heat does the 3.5 inch 7.2K rpm drive generate when running continuously in a server chassis?

As a 7.2K rpm 3.5 inch SAS drive, it produces moderate acoustic output and heat typical for nearline drives; ensure your chassis airflow matches Dell's specifications for the listed PowerEdge models.

Which Dell PowerEdge servers and drive caddies are required to install this 8TB SAS drive?

The included compatible caddy fits Dell PowerEdge R210, R220, R230, R300, R310, R320, R330, R410, R415, R420, R430, R510, R520, R530, R530XD, R630, R710, R715, R720, R720XD, R730, R730XD, R900, R905, R920 and R930.
