8TB SAS drive for Dell servers

This 8TB SAS hard drive spins at 7.2K RPM and connects through a 12Gb/s interface. It ships with a compatible Dell caddy for direct installation in supported PowerEdge systems. The unit is supplied new and carries a one-year warranty. ||

Upgrade from smaller SAS drives

The drive replaces lower-capacity 3.5-inch SAS disks in the listed PowerEdge models when storage demand exceeds current volume. A jump to 8TB is worth it when databases, backups or media libraries no longer fit on existing spindles and the chassis still has free bays. ||

Check bay count and controller support

Verify that the target server has an available 3.5-inch drive bay and a SAS controller or backplane able to address 12Gb/s drives. Confirm the caddy matches the specific chassis generation before ordering.

Questions about this item

Will the 3.5" drive and included caddy fit my PowerEdge R720 bay?

The 3.5 inch SAS drive ships with a compatible Dell caddy that matches the drive trays used in the PowerEdge R720 and other listed servers.

What is the correct way to seat the drive in the caddy before sliding it into the server?

Align the SAS connector on the drive with the caddy's rear opening, secure the four mounting screws, then insert the assembly until the latch clicks into the backplane.

When should the 7.2K RPM drive be considered for replacement in a 12G SAS array?

Monitor SMART reallocated-sector counts and sustained throughput; a rise in either signals bearing wear or media degradation that warrants proactive swap-out.
