Alienware X17 R1 for creative professionals

The Alienware X17 R1 is a 17.3 inch laptop built around an eight-core Intel Core i9 11980HK that reaches 5 GHz with Turbo Boost. It pairs 32 GB of memory with a 960 GB SSD and a dedicated GeForce RTX 3080 mobile GPU carrying 8 GB of GDDR6X graphics memory. The 3840 x 2160 non-touch display runs at 120 Hz and Windows 11 Home is preinstalled.

Verify power and peripheral needs

Confirm your workspace can accommodate the laptop’s 17.0 inch footprint and that your external monitors support the native 3840 x 2160 resolution over the available video outputs. Check that any docking station or hub you plan to use provides sufficient power delivery for the 8-core processor and RTX 3080 graphics. Ensure your Wi-Fi 802.11ac router can handle the wireless bandwidth you require.

Thermals and acoustics under load

The slim chassis houses a high-performance cooling system designed for the i9 11980HK and RTX 3080 combination. During sustained gaming or rendering the fans spin up to move heat away from the CPU and GPU, producing audible airflow noise typical of thin-and-light workstations. Power draw rises sharply when both processor and graphics operate at their boost clocks, so expect shorter battery runtime during intensive sessions.

Questions about this item

Does the Alienware X17 R1 ship with the 960GB SSD and 32GB RAM already installed, or must I add them myself?

The laptop arrives with the 960GB solid-state drive and 32GB of memory fitted; no extra storage or RAM modules are required to start working.

The listing shows both 960GB and 1000GB for the SSD — which capacity will I actually receive?

The drive is a single 960GB unit; the 1000GB figure is a rounded marketing label for the same physical storage.

What does the 120Hz refresh rate on the 3840x2160 panel mean for everyday gaming?

The screen can draw up to 120 full frames every second at 4k resolution, so motion stays smooth in fast-paced titles when the RTX 3080 can push frame rates that high.
