Dell BCM5720 Quad-Port Gigabit Card

This Dell BCM5720 daughter card adds four 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports to compatible PowerEdge servers. It uses a PCI Express 2.0 interface and dual Broadcom 5720 controllers to deliver quad-port connectivity for enterprise networking tasks.

Suits PowerEdge R620 and R720 upgrades

Administrators expanding LAN capacity on supported Dell PowerEdge R620 or R720 servers will find this card matches the required form factor. It is not for desktop PCs, laptops, or servers lacking the specific daughter card slot and BIOS support.

PCIe 2.0 daughter card interface

The card installs only in the dedicated daughter card connector on the target PowerEdge motherboards. Verify that your server chassis and firmware accept this specific daughter card type before ordering.

Questions about this item

How much power does the quad-port BCM5720 card draw when all four 1000 Mbps links are active all day?

The card uses dual BCM5720 controllers with on-chip memory buffers to handle four IEEE 802.3-compliant ports, but the supplier data does not publish a maximum power-draw figure for continuous full-load operation.

What server chassis and PCIe slot type are required to install this FM487 daughter card?

It is designed for Dell PowerEdge R620 and R720 servers and plugs into a dedicated PCIe 2.0 daughter-card connector inside those chassis.

Will this 10/100/1000Base-T card negotiate correctly with older 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps switches still in our rack?

Yes, each of the four ports supports triple-speed IEEE 802.3 operation and will auto-negotiate down to 10 or 100 Mbps when connected to legacy equipment.
