Dell PERC H330 RAID Controller

The Dell PERC H330 is a 12Gb/s SAS controller that installs in a PCI Express 3.0 x8 slot and provides 2GB of cache memory. It supports SATA 6Gb/s and SAS 12Gb/s drives with hardware RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 and 60. This card is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that need a dedicated RAID engine with onboard cache.

Suited for administrators adding RAID

This controller fits administrators who want hardware RAID with cache protection for SATA or SAS arrays in a supported PowerEdge chassis. It is not for systems that lack a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot or that require drive interfaces other than SATA or SAS.

2GB cache memory on the controller

The 2GB cache is the specification that determines whether this card meets the performance and data-protection needs of the target workload. Buyers should confirm that their server model supports this cache configuration before purchase.

Questions about this item

Does the PERC H330 12Gb/s SAS controller need active cooling when running continuously in a server chassis?

The card uses a PCIe 3.0 x8 host interface and draws power from the slot; adequate chassis airflow is required to keep temperatures within specification.

What drive cables or backplanes must I already have to connect disks to the H330?

The controller provides SATA 6Gb/s and SAS 12Gb/s ports, so you need matching SATA or SAS cables and a compatible drive backplane or direct-attached drives.

Can the H330 RAID controller work alongside an older PERC card that only supports 6Gb/s SAS in the same server?

Each controller operates on its own PCIe 3.0 x8 link; the H330 will run its connected drives at 12Gb/s while the older card remains limited to 6Gb/s.
