Dell 2 TB NLSAS drive for servers

This Dell Enterprise Plus hard disk delivers 2 TB of storage on a 3.5 inch form factor with a 6 Gb/s NLSAS interface. It spins at 7.2 K rpm and is built for continuous operation in rack-mounted systems. The HUS724020ALA640 model suits administrators who need reliable bulk capacity for archival, backup or near-line workloads. It is not suited for users who require solid-state latency or higher spindle speeds for transaction-heavy databases.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The 7.2 K rpm spindle and NLSAS interface keep heat output and acoustic levels typical for near-line enterprise drives during sustained reads and writes. Power draw remains within the standard envelope for 3.5 inch mechanical disks under normal server loads. No special cooling beyond normal rack airflow is required. The drive is not designed for environments that demand ultra-low noise or minimal power consumption.

Questions about this item

How do I install the HUS724020ALA640 3.5" drive into a server rack?

Slide the drive into the 3.5-inch hot-swap tray until the connector seats firmly, then secure the tray latch; the step often missed is verifying the backplane detects the drive before closing the chassis.

What maintenance or replacement will the 7.2K NLSAS 6Gbs HDD need later?

The drive has no user-serviceable parts; replacement is required if SMART alerts appear or if the drive fails after its rated workload limit.
