Product identity

The Dell Latitude 5420 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an 11th Generation Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor with 12 MB cache, 4 cores and 8 threads. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory at 3200 MHz and a 256 GB M.2 SSD, running Windows 11 Pro. The anti-glare FHD display runs at 60 Hz and is non-touch, suited for office professionals and mobile workers who need a compact, managed device.

Installation and common issues

As a sealed ultraportable, the Latitude 5420 requires no user assembly; memory and storage are not designed for easy upgrades. The most frequent setup friction comes from Thunderbolt 4 dock compatibility — some third-party docks need a firmware update before the dual Type-C ports deliver power and DisplayPort simultaneously. The wedge-shaped lock slot and RJ45 jack are fixed, so cable routing in tight bags can strain the connectors.

Sustained load behaviour

Under continuous workloads the 17.5 W processor settles near its base frequency of 2.80 GHz rather than the 4.70 GHz turbo, and the integrated Iris Xe graphics share system memory. The single-point keyboard and compact chassis limit airflow, so extended compiles or video exports will trigger thermal throttling. Buyers who need sustained multi-core throughput or discrete graphics performance should consider a larger workstation form factor.
