Purpose-built mobile workstation

The Dell Latitude 5480 is a 14-inch laptop driven by a quad-core Intel Core i5-6440HQ processor at 2.6 GHz with 8 GB of DDR4 memory. Integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 handles the 1366 x 768 HD display. A 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides the system drive. Windows 10 Home is installed. The chassis includes HDMI, VGA, USB-C with DisplayPort, three USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, wireless 802.11n or better and a webcam.

Upgrade path and value

This unit replaces an ageing hard-drive laptop or a smaller-capacity SSD model when faster boot and load times are the priority. The jump is worth it for users who need a full terabyte of NVMe storage and 8 GB of memory in a thin 14-inch form factor without moving to a larger, heavier machine. Buyers who require a higher-resolution panel, discrete graphics or more than 8 GB of memory should look elsewhere.

Installation and common issues

The laptop ships with charger and battery so it is ready to use after the standard Windows out-of-box setup. Because the SSD is already fitted, no drive installation is required. The most frequent issues on Grade B units are cosmetic wear on keys, touchpad or lid, and occasional battery capacity reduction from previous use. Verify the wireless card supports the required network standard before deployment.
