Professional 14.0" business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a new 14.0 inch business laptop built around a quad-core Intel Core i5 8th Gen processor with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. It ships with Windows 11 Home and includes a webcam, HDMI, VGA and two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports for standard office connectivity.

Sustained workload behaviour

The integrated Intel HD Graphics handles everyday productivity and video playback without a discrete GPU. Under continuous load the quad-core processor maintains steady performance for typical business applications, while the 512GB solid-state drive keeps file access fast throughout the day.

Pre-purchase checks

Verify that the non-backlit keyboard and 14.0 inch screen suit your working environment. Confirm that two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI and one VGA output cover your peripheral and display needs. Ensure Windows 11 Home meets any organisational licensing requirements before ordering.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the Latitude 5490 get when the Intel Core i5 8th Gen quad-core processor runs all day?

The 14.0-inch chassis uses Intel HD Graphics and a 512GB SSD with no moving parts, so sustained workloads stay quieter and cooler than mechanical-drive models.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, HDMI and VGA outputs?

You need USB-A devices or adapters for the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, an HDMI cable for digital displays, and a VGA cable for legacy projectors or monitors.

Will the 16GB memory and 512GB SSD work smoothly with older USB-A docks and VGA monitors I keep from earlier laptops?

Yes — the two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and native VGA output connect directly to legacy docks and projectors without extra converters.
