Business-ready 14-inch laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.7 GHz with 6 MB cache. It comes with 32 GB DDR4 memory and a 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handle everyday productivity. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suits mobile professionals needing memory and ports

This configuration suits professionals who travel or meet clients and need 32 GB memory for multitasking across Office, browser and video calls. The HDMI, VGA and USB-C DisplayPort outputs cover most meeting-room projectors and screens. Three USB 3.0 ports and Gigabit Ethernet handle peripherals and wired networks. Buyers who need more internal storage than 128 GB or a discrete GPU for creative workloads should look elsewhere.

128 GB M.2 SATA SSD capacity

The single specification that decides fit is the 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD. It provides fast boot and application loading within a small footprint, but the capacity is modest for large media libraries, VM images or offline datasets. If your workflow requires more local space, you will need to add external storage or choose a model with a larger drive.

Questions about this item

Will the 1.7 GHz i5-8350U and 32 GB DDR4 handle the same workloads as my older 14" laptop with 8 GB RAM?

The quad-core i5-8350U with 6 MB cache and 32 GB DDR4 provides significantly more multitasking headroom than an 8 GB system, allowing many browser tabs, Office apps and background tasks to run together without swapping.

How can I verify the 1920 x 1080 FHD panel and Intel UHD Graphics 620 are operating correctly after first boot?

Open Windows Display Settings and confirm the resolution shows 1920 x 1080 at 100 % scaling; then run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) and check that the Display tab lists Intel UHD Graphics 620 with the correct driver date.

Does the box contain only the laptop, charger and battery, or are a docking station and extra cables included?

The shipment includes the laptop, its charger and the installed battery; a docking station, external monitors, Ethernet cable or additional USB-C accessories are not supplied and must be purchased separately.
