Dell Latitude 5490 business laptop

This Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U processor running at 1.7GHz. It comes with 8GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive. The unit ships with Windows 10 Pro installed and includes an AC adapter.

Suited for mobile office work not intensive

The specification suits professionals who need a reliable Windows 10 machine for document editing, email and web-based applications while travelling. Buyers who require more than 8GB of memory for virtualisation or video editing should look at a different configuration.

512GB SSD capacity determines storage headroom

The single figure that decides fit is the 512GB solid-state drive capacity. It dictates how many local files and applications you can keep onboard before needing external storage or cloud sync.

Questions about this item

Does the Dell Latitude 5490 use a standard 2.5-inch drive bay or an M.2 slot for the 512GB SSD?

The 512GB solid-state drive in this Latitude 5490 uses an M.2 slot; there is no 2.5-inch bay on this 14.0-inch chassis.

What is the correct order for reinstalling Windows 10 Pro on this Latitude 5490 after a drive swap?

Boot from USB installation media, select the 512GB M.2 drive as the target, and let Windows 10 Pro activate automatically using the firmware licence.

Is the battery in this Latitude 5490 user-replaceable or does it require disassembly?

The battery is internal; replacement requires removing the base cover and disconnecting the cable, so plan for a screwdriver and careful reassembly.
