Business-ready 14.0" laptop

The DELL Latitude 5490 is a 14.0" Windows 10 Pro laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U processor running at 1.70GHz with 8GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. It targets professionals who need a compact, non-touch machine for office applications, web work and video calls.

Docking and expansion

A single HDMI port and one VGA output let you connect external monitors or projectors without a dock. The integrated graphics and 802.11a/b/g/n wireless LAN handle everyday connectivity, while the absence of an optical drive keeps the chassis light for mobile use.

Thermals and power

The low-power U-series CPU and integrated graphics produce modest heat, so the internal fan runs quietly during typical productivity tasks. The 256GB solid-state drive draws little power, helping the battery last through a standard workday on a single charge.

Questions about this item

How does the i5-8350U 1.70GHz processor handle sustained workloads?

The 1.70GHz base clock and integrated graphics share the thermal envelope, so sustained loads drop to base frequency once the cooling limit is reached.

What noise and heat levels should I expect when the Latitude 5490 runs all day?

Under continuous load the fan spins up to move heat from the integrated graphics and CPU, producing audible airflow; the chassis warms noticeably near the hinge area.

What cables or peripherals are required to use the VGA and HDMI video ports?

You need a VGA cable for the VGA port and an HDMI cable for the HDMI port; both are standard connectors available separately.
