Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 pairs an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with 32GB DDR4 memory and a 128GB M.2 SATA SSD. A 14.0" 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display provides clear visuals. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles everyday productivity tasks. Windows 10 Home is pre-installed.

Sustained performance under load

The 15W quad-core processor maintains stable operation during extended office workloads and video conferencing. Integrated graphics share system memory, so heavy multitasking may reduce available bandwidth. The M.2 SATA SSD delivers consistent read speeds for document access. Thermal design supports continuous use without throttling in typical business environments.

Connectivity and storage limits

USB 3.0 and USB-C with DisplayPort alternate mode drive external monitors up to the panel's native resolution. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n wireless provide network access. The 128GB SATA SSD capacity restricts local file storage for large media libraries. VGA and HDMI ports support legacy projectors and displays.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the Core i5-8350U get during all-day use?

The quad-core i5-8350U runs at a 15 W TDP with Intel UHD Graphics 620, so fan noise stays low and surface temperatures remain moderate during typical office workloads.

Which cables or peripherals must I already own to use the USB-C and video outputs?

You need a USB-C cable or adapter for the USB-C/DisplayPort port and an HDMI or VGA cable for the respective video ports; the laptop includes its charger and battery.

Will the 128 GB M.2 SATA SSD and DDR4 memory work with older docks and monitors I keep?

The M.2 SATA drive and 32 GB DDR4 are internal; legacy monitors connect via the HDMI or VGA ports, and older USB-A accessories plug into the three USB 3.0 ports.
