Target audience and role

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop built for office tasks and mobile professionals. It ships with Windows 10 Home, 32GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The Intel Core i5 7th Gen processor runs at a minimum 2.60GHz and uses Intel HD Graphics 620 for the 1920 x 1080 FHD non-touch display.

Upgrade context

This unit replaces an older machine that struggles with 32GB of memory or solid-state storage. The jump is worth it when your current system has less RAM, a mechanical drive or a lower-resolution screen. It is not for buyers who want a dedicated graphics processor or a higher-resolution panel.

Compatibility checks

Verify that Windows 10 Home meets your software requirements and that the 256GB SSD capacity is sufficient for your workload. Confirm the two memory slots match any future expansion plans. The cosmetic condition includes moderate scratches or scuffs on the bezel and casing.

Questions about this item

The 256GB SSD is installed in an M.2 slot inside the chassis.

How do I reach the memory slots to confirm the 32GB configuration?

Remove the base cover screws, lift the cover, and you will see two SODIMM slots populated for 32GB total.

When will the original 256GB drive likely need replacement?

Plan to replace the M.2 SSD after several years of heavy write cycles or if capacity becomes tight.
