14-inch business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14-inch laptop built for professionals who need a portable Windows 10 Pro machine. It runs on an Intel Core i5-8350U processor with four cores and 8GB of DDR4 memory. A 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD provides fast storage for documents and applications. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display offers a clear workspace for office tasks.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits mobile workers and students who value a lightweight chassis, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, and multiple video outputs including HDMI and USB-C with DisplayPort. Buyers who need a dedicated graphics card for rendering or gaming should look elsewhere. Those requiring more than 8GB of memory or a touchscreen for creative work will not find those features here.

The spec that decides fit

The quad-core Intel Core i5-8350U with a 1.7 GHz base speed and 15W power envelope determines whether this laptop handles your daily workload. Its integrated graphics and 8GB of soldered memory define the performance ceiling for multitasking and external displays. If your software demands higher sustained clock speeds or discrete GPU acceleration, this processor is the limiting factor.

Questions about this item

How much power does the Core i5-8350U draw under sustained load?

The processor has a 15W thermal design power, so sustained load stays within that envelope and the cooling system is built to handle it quietly.

What cables or adapters are needed to connect an external monitor?

The laptop provides one HDMI port and one USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, so a standard HDMI cable or a USB-C to DisplayPort cable will work without extra adapters.

Will the integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drive a legacy VGA projector?

Yes, a VGA port is built in, allowing direct connection to older projectors without a separate converter.
