Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch non-touch laptop built for everyday office work. It runs Windows 10 Pro on a dual-core Intel Core i5-7200U processor with a 3.10 GHz turbo frequency. Eight gigabytes of memory and a 500GB hard drive provide a familiar platform for standard productivity tasks.

500GB HDD and 8GB RAM capacity

The 500GB mechanical drive stores large document libraries and local backups without needing cloud sync. Eight gigabytes of memory keeps multiple browser tabs and office suites responsive during typical workloads. The hard drive and fixed memory mean heavy media editing or large virtual machines will hit storage speed and capacity limits quickly.

Port selection for desk and travel

An HDMI output, DisplayPort over USB-C and a VGA connector cover most external display setups without adapters. Three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, an RJ-45 jack and an SD card reader handle peripherals and wired networks in one session. The 1.60kg chassis and 20.3mm profile fit standard bags, while the Noble wedge lock slot secures the device on shared desks.

Questions about this item

Will the USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and VGA output on this Latitude 5490 work with my older USB 2.0 peripherals and legacy monitor?

The USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports are backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices, and the VGA port supports analog monitors directly without an adapter.

How can I verify the i5-7200U is reaching its 3.10 GHz turbo frequency under load?

Open Task Manager's Performance tab or a tool like HWMonitor while running a demanding task; the CPU clock should show up to 3.10 GHz on one or both cores.

Does the box include a power adapter, and do I need to buy a docking station separately for DisplayPort over USB-C?

An AC power adapter is included; a Dell Business Dock WD15 or compatible USB-C dock must be purchased separately to use DisplayPort over Type-C.
