Business laptop with 16 GB DDR4

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14-inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.7 GHz. It comes with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD for fast storage access. The 1920 x 1080 Full HD non-touch display provides clear visuals for office tasks. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed for professional environments.

15 W processor with integrated graphics

The i5-8350U operates at a 15 W thermal design power, using Intel UHD Graphics 620 for video output. This low-power design helps extend battery runtime during typical office workloads such as document editing and web browsing. The fanless or low-noise cooling solution keeps acoustic output minimal in quiet rooms. Three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, VGA and a USB-C DisplayPort handle peripheral connectivity without added power draw.

Sustained workloads on quad-core U-series

Under continuous multi-threaded load the 15 W envelope limits clock speeds, so extended compiles or large spreadsheet recalculations run slower than short bursts. The integrated UHD 620 shares system memory, reducing bandwidth for heavy GPU tasks. Thermal throttling may appear during prolonged video encoding or virtualisation workloads. Buyers who need higher sustained CPU performance or discrete graphics should consider other form factors.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and what step do people miss?

The 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is already installed in the M.2 slot. The step people miss is confirming the drive appears in the BIOS boot order before installing Windows 10 Pro.

What maintenance will the 16GB DDR4 memory need later?

The 16GB DDR4 memory is soldered and cannot be upgraded. No user maintenance is required; if capacity becomes limiting, the only option is a new laptop.

At what point does the Intel UHD Graphics 620 limit sustained use?

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and has no dedicated VRAM, so frame rates drop first in 3D workloads or when driving external displays at 1920 x 1080.
