Dell Latitude 5490 Ultrabook

This Dell Latitude 5490 ultrabook is a 14-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i5-8350U quad-core processor running at 1.7GHz. It comes with 16GB of memory and a 512GB solid-state drive. The 1920 x 1080 non-touch display, integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620, 802.11ac wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN and a webcam complete the specification. Windows 10 Pro is installed and an AC adapter is included.

Suits mobile professionals needing a compact

The 14.0-inch chassis and 16GB of RAM support typical office workloads and video conferencing on the move. Buyers who need a touchscreen, a dedicated graphics processor or a larger display should look at other models. The non-touch Full HD panel and integrated graphics limit creative or engineering tasks that demand colour-critical screens or GPU acceleration.

512GB SSD capacity

The single 512GB solid-state drive determines how much local data the laptop can hold. Users with large media libraries, virtual-machine images or offline datasets will need external storage or a different configuration.

Questions about this item

What wired network speed does the Gigabit LAN port on the Latitude 5490 support?

The integrated LAN handles 10, 100 and 1000Mbps connections.

Which storage upgrade can I fit inside the 14.0 inch chassis?

The laptop uses a single 512GB SSD; there is no 2.5 inch bay or second M.2 slot.

How do I reinstall Windows 10 Pro on this unit, and what step is often missed?

Boot from a Windows 10 Pro USB, install, then download the Dell driver pack for the 5490 model; skipping the driver pack leaves devices unrecognised.
