14 inch FHD business laptop

The Dell Latitude 5490 is a 14 inch laptop with a 1920 x 1080 non-touch display. It runs Windows 10 Pro on an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with 16GB DDR4 memory and a 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles video output via HDMI and USB-C DisplayPort.

Mobile professionals needing integrated graphics

This unit suits users who want a 14 inch chassis with quad-core performance, 16GB memory and fast NVMe storage for office applications and travel. Buyers who need a dedicated GPU for 3D rendering or gaming should look elsewhere, as should anyone requiring a touchscreen or a higher resolution panel.

1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD storage

The single specification that decides fit is the 1TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD. It provides capacity and speed for large local datasets and quick boot times. If your workflow demands more than 1TB of internal solid-state storage, this laptop will not meet that requirement.

Questions about this item

How loud or hot does the 15 W Core i7-8650U get when the Latitude 5490 runs all day?

The 15 W quad-core processor is designed for sustained office workloads; the slim chassis uses a single fan that stays quiet during typical tasks and ramps up only under heavy multi-threaded load.

What must I already own to use the single USB-C/DisplayPort and the HDMI port on this 5490?

You need a monitor or projector that accepts HDMI or DisplayPort signalling, plus any required cables or adapters — the laptop provides the ports but no video cables are included.

Will my older VGA-only projector work with the 5490's built-in VGA port?

Yes, the full-size VGA connector is present and driven by the Intel UHD Graphics 620, so legacy projectors connect directly without an adapter.
