Latitude 5490 business laptop

The Latitude 5490 is a 14.0 inch laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor running at 1.9 GHz with 8MB cache. It ships with 8GB DDR4 memory, a 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD and Windows 10 Pro 64-bit pre-installed. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 non-touch display.

Included charger and battery

The box contains the laptop, its charger and the internal battery so the system is ready to run without extra purchases. Three USB 3.0 ports, one USB-C port with DisplayPort alternate mode, HDMI and VGA give wide peripheral and external-display connectivity. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11n-or-better wireless handle wired and mobile networks.

Suits mobile professionals needing legacy ports

Travellers and client-facing workers gain a slim chassis, quad-core performance and abundant video outputs for projectors or meeting-room screens. Buyers who want a touchscreen, discrete graphics, more than 8GB memory or a larger display should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

Will the 8GB DDR4 memory need an upgrade for heavier workloads?

The 8GB DDR4 is soldered and cannot be expanded; only the 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD slot is user-accessible for storage upgrades.

What limits the Intel Core i7-8650U during long sessions?

The 15W TDP and integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 mean sustained turbo clocks drop once the cooling system reaches its thermal ceiling.

How loud and hot does the 14" chassis get under all-day load?

The 15W quad-core CPU and passively cooled Intel UHD 620 keep fan noise moderate and surface temperatures warm but not uncomfortable during extended use.
