Built for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7290 is a 12.5 inch laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U processor running at 1.90 GHz with four cores. It ships with 16 GB of DDR4 memory and a 256 GB M.2 SATA solid-state drive. The 1366 x 768 HD display is non-touch and the system runs Windows 10 Home. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles visual output.

Cool and quiet in daily tasks

The low-power U-series processor and integrated graphics keep heat and fan noise low during typical office work, web browsing and video playback. Solid-state storage eliminates mechanical drive noise and reduces power draw compared to spinning disks. Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI ports allow external displays without adding internal thermal load. Gigabit Ethernet and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with Bluetooth 4.2 provide connectivity with minimal energy cost.

Steady performance on long workloads

The quad-core CPU maintains its base frequency during extended compile sessions, large spreadsheet calculations or back-to-back video calls without thermal throttling that would cut speeds. Integrated graphics share system memory but leave the SSD free for sustained read and write throughput. The M.2 SATA drive delivers consistent access times across hours of use. Battery life benefits from the efficient architecture during prolonged unplugged sessions.

Questions about this item

How do I install the M.2 SATA SSD and what step is often missed?

Insert the 256GB M.2 SATA SSD into the slot at an angle, press it down, and secure it with the retaining screw; the step often missed is fully tightening that screw so the drive stays seated.

Which component will likely need replacement first during the laptop's life?

The internal battery will degrade before the 16GB DDR4 memory or the 256GB M.2 SATA SSD, so plan to replace the battery when run time drops noticeably.

What limit appears first when the Intel Core i7-8650U runs sustained workloads?

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 hits its thermal ceiling before the quad-core processor reaches its maximum turbo, so graphics-intensive tasks throttle first.
