Purpose-built ultraportable

The Dell Latitude 7400 is a 14.0-inch business laptop aimed at mobile professionals who need a touchscreen in a carbon-fibre chassis. It ships with Windows 10 Pro and an Intel Core i5-8365U quad-core processor running at 1.6 GHz with a 4.10 GHz turbo. Sixteen gigabytes of memory and a 512GB SSD handle everyday workloads and local file storage.

Thermals, noise and power

Integrated graphics keep the thermal envelope modest during typical office tasks, so the fan stays quiet under light load. The 7.4mm barrel connector supplies power without a bulky adapter, and Thunderbolt 3 adds Power Delivery for single-cable docking. Battery life varies with screen brightness and wireless use.

Deciding specification

The 1920 x 1080 touchscreen is the feature that determines fit: it enables direct pen or finger input for presentations and annotation. Buyers who do not need touch interaction should consider a non-touch model instead.

Questions about this item

How do I connect the 7.4 mm DC-in barrel to power the Latitude 7400?

Plug the supplied 7.4 mm barrel connector into the DC-in port on the right side of the chassis; the port accepts only that diameter so the plug seats fully without force.

When will the 512 GB SSD need replacement?

The 512 GB solid-state drive has no moving parts and typically lasts the laptop’s lifetime; replace it only if capacity runs out or SMART diagnostics report media wear.

At what temperature does the i5-8365U throttle during sustained loads?

The quad-core i5-8365U reduces clocks when its junction temperature reaches the factory trip point, which is the first limit encountered under continuous heavy workloads.
