Business laptop for mobile professionals

The Dell Latitude 7420 is a 14.0 inch touchscreen laptop built for professionals who need a portable Windows 11 Pro device. It combines an Intel Core i5 11th Gen processor with 16GB of memory and a 256GB SSD. The 1920 x 1080 FHD display supports touch input for direct interaction.

Thermals and acoustics in daily use

Integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics share system memory and generate modest heat during typical office tasks. The cooling system manages temperatures quietly when handling documents, email and web browsing. Power draw remains low during light workloads, helping to extend time away from a charger.

Behaviour under sustained load

During extended heavy workloads the processor maintains a minimum 2.40GHz speed while thermals rise and fan noise becomes more noticeable. The 256GB SSD provides consistent read and write performance without thermal throttling. Surface temperatures on the chassis increase during prolonged maximum utilisation.

Questions about this item

How do I add more memory to the Latitude 7420, and what mistake do people make?

The 16 GB is soldered and the board has zero memory slots, so no upgrade is possible; the common error is buying a SO-DIMM that cannot be installed.

Which component will I need to replace first as the battery wears down?

The internal lithium-ion pack is not user-removable; when runtime drops you must book a depot service to swap the sealed battery.

At what point does the Core i5 11th Gen throttle during a long compile job?

Sustained loads push the 2.40 GHz base chip into thermal limits within minutes, causing clocks to pull back until the chassis cools.
