Palmrest Assembly for Latitude 7480

This Dell OEM palmrest touchpad assembly is built for Latitude 7480 laptops that use the Dual Pointing layout. It restores the integrated pointing stick, dual button sets and smart-card reader in a single chassis-matched unit. Installers replace the complete top cover without sourcing separate sub-assemblies.

Included Modules and Cabling

The kit supplies the T54GY smart-card reader, 8P10G touchpad module, XKYX9 mouse buttons, Y81KR LED indicator with cable, VXG88 USH junction board and YK41H USH junction cable. Each component is pre-fitted to the palmrest frame so the security and navigation functions reconnect to the system board through the original connectors.

Dual Point Compatibility and Limits

The assembly fits Latitude 7480 systems equipped with the two-button pointing-stick configuration and will not align with single-point or touchpad-only variants. Buyers whose 7480 lacks the centre stick or the second button row cannot use this part. The smart-card reader works only on models wired for the USH interface.

How do I replace the smart card reader if it stops working?

The smart card reader module T54GY is included in this assembly and can be swapped independently of the palmrest frame.

Which component limits continuous pointer accuracy during long sessions?

The dual-pointing stick and touchpad share the USH junction board VXG88, which handles all pointer input signals.

Does the LED indicator cable add noticeable heat when the laptop runs all day?

The LED indicator light with cable Y81KR draws minimal power and does not contribute measurable heat during extended use.
