Latitude 7490 14" business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch FHD business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with a base frequency of 1.90 GHz and a max turbo of 4.20 GHz. It comes with 32GB of 2400MHz DDR4 memory and a 1TB solid state drive. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit is pre-installed.

Suited for mobile professionals needing quad-core

This configuration suits professionals who need four cores, 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD in a compact 14 inch chassis. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics handles office workloads and video playback. Buyers who require discrete graphics for CAD or gaming, a touchscreen display, or a newer operating system than Windows 10 Pro should consider other models.

Quad-core i7-8650U with 32GB DDR4

The deciding specification is the Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor paired with 32GB of DDR4 memory. This combination determines whether the laptop can handle your multi-threaded business applications and heavy multitasking. If your workload demands more cores, higher memory capacity or discrete graphics, this unit will not meet those requirements.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 32 GB DDR4 2400 memory modules, and which slot is commonly missed?

The laptop uses two SODIMM slots under the bottom cover; the inner slot is often overlooked, so both must be populated to reach 32 GB.

What maintenance will the 4-cell 60 WHr battery need over time?

The battery is internal and rated at 60 WHr; expect capacity loss after several hundred cycles, requiring a Dell service visit for replacement.

At what point does the 15 W i7-8650U throttle during sustained loads?

The quad-core processor runs at 1.90 GHz base and can hit 4.20 GHz turbo, but the 15 W TDP and 65 W adapter limit mean thermal throttling appears first under continuous multi-core work.
