Dell Latitude 7490 14 inch FHD business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U quad-core processor with a base frequency of 1.90 GHz and a maximum turbo frequency of 4.20 GHz. It ships with Windows 10 Pro 64-bit and includes a 256GB solid state drive alongside 8GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory. The anti-glare display offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution without touch input.

Suits mobile professionals needing a managed

This configuration suits professionals who need a managed Windows 10 Pro environment with a fingerprint reader and contactless smartcard reader for secure authentication. The 65W adapter and 60Wh battery support mobile work, while the 1.4 kg chassis fits in compact bags. Buyers who need more than 8GB of memory, a dedicated graphics processor, or a larger screen should look at alternatives.

256GB SSD and 8GB DDR4 define the upgrade floor

The single specification that decides fit is the combination of a 256GB solid state drive and 8GB of DDR4 2400MHz memory. Both components determine whether the system can handle the intended workload without immediate upgrades, as the memory capacity and storage space are fixed at these values.

Questions about this item

How do I install additional DDR4 memory and what step is often missed?

Remove the base cover, insert the SO-DIMM at an angle into the single slot until it clicks, then press down firmly to lock the retention clips — the step often missed is pressing down fully so the clips engage.

Which component will need replacement first and when?

The 4-cell 60W battery is the first part that will degrade; expect reduced runtime after 2–3 years of daily charge cycles.

What thermal limit appears first during a sustained heavy workload?

The 15W processor will hit its thermal throttle point before the chassis can dissipate more heat, causing clock speeds to drop from the 4.20 GHz turbo.
