Dell Latitude 7490 14" Touchscreen

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14-inch touchscreen laptop built for mobile professionals who need a responsive display and ample memory. It ships with Windows 11 Pro and 32 GB of DDR4 memory. The Intel Core i7-8650U processor runs at 1.90 GHz with integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620. A 512 GB SSD provides fast storage for documents and applications.

Suits mobile workers; not for memory upgrades

This device suits mobile workers who value a 14.0-inch 1920 x 1080 touchscreen, 32 GB of installed memory, and a lightweight 3.11 kg chassis with HDMI 1.4 and USB 3.1 Gen1 ports. Buyers who need more memory than the 32 GB maximum supported by the two DDR4 slots should look elsewhere. The integrated graphics rely on shared system memory, limiting 3D performance.

Fixed 32 GB DDR4 maximum memory

The single specification that decides fit is the 32 GB maximum memory ceiling across two DDR4 slots, which cannot be exceeded. With 32 GB already installed, no further RAM expansion is possible. The 512 GB SSD and Intel UHD Graphics 620 are fixed by the platform. Buyers requiring user-upgradeable memory beyond this limit must choose a different system.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 512 GB SSD in the DELL Latitude 7490 and what step do people get wrong?

The 512 GB SSD comes pre-installed from the factory, so no installation is required. The common mistake is attempting to open the chassis to add storage when the single drive bay is already occupied.

What maintenance or replacement will the lithium-ion battery need later?

The lithium-ion battery is rated to hold a charge but will lose capacity over time. Plan to replace it once runtime drops below your daily requirement; the pack is user-accessible after removing the base screws.

What limit appears first on the Intel UHD Graphics 620 during sustained workloads?

The Intel UHD Graphics 620 uses shared system memory from the 32 GB DDR4 pool. Under sustained 3D or video loads the thermal ceiling of the 14.0 inch chassis throttles the i7-8650U before graphics memory becomes a bottleneck.
