What this laptop is

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0 inch business laptop equipped with an Intel Core i7-7600U processor reaching 3.9 GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 16GB of memory and a 512GB Dell solid-state drive. The system includes Intel HD Graphics driving a 1920 x 1080 display and offers up to 10 hours of battery life. A card reader and one HDMI port are provided, while the keyboard is non-backlit.

Deciding specification

The 16GB memory capacity is the single figure that determines whether this unit suits your workload. It supports typical office multitasking, web browsing with many tabs and light development tasks. Buyers who need more memory for virtual machines, large datasets or heavy creative applications will find this limit restrictive and should look for a configurable or higher-capacity model.

Thermals, noise and power

The dual-core processor and integrated graphics keep heat output modest during normal office use. Fan noise stays low for typical productivity tasks and the 13.03 x 8.7 x 0.70 inch chassis helps dissipate warmth without aggressive cooling. Battery life of up to 10 hours reflects the efficient power draw of this configuration under light loads.

Questions about this item

How does the 3.9 GHz turbo frequency behave once the laptop is under sustained load?

The dual-core processor reaches 3.9 GHz in short bursts; under continuous work it will drop to its base speed to manage heat and power draw.

What does the single HDMI port actually cap in practice?

The HDMI output supports external displays up to 1920 x 1080 resolution, matching the built-in panel's native pixel count.

Will the 14.0 inch chassis fit a standard 14-inch laptop sleeve?

The body measures 13.03 x 8.7 x 0.70 inches, so a typical 14-inch sleeve with a little depth allowance will accommodate it.
