Business laptop with 14-inch display

The Dell Latitude 7490 combines an Intel Core i7-8650U processor running at 1.90GHz with 16GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe drive. Windows 10 Pro is installed on a 14.0-inch screen. The specification suits professionals who need a portable system for office applications and multitasking.

Upgrade from slower storage or less memory

Replacing a traditional hard drive with the 512GB NVMe unit cuts boot and load times for large documents and databases. The 16GB memory capacity handles multiple browser tabs and business programs without swapping. The jump is worth it when daily work involves heavy spreadsheets or virtual machines.

Limits of the NVMe interface in this chassis

The NVMe drive uses the PCIe lanes provided by the 8th generation platform, so sequential speeds are capped by that controller. Sustained write performance may throttle under continuous heavy workloads such as video rendering. Buyers who need higher sustained throughput or a second internal drive should consider a different form factor.

Questions about this item

What size 2.5-inch drive bay or M.2 slot does the Latitude 7490 chassis accept for the 512GB NVMe drive?

The 512GB NVMe drive fits the internal M.2 slot; no 2.5-inch bay is used in this 14.0" chassis.

Which screw or latch secures the bottom cover when upgrading the 16GB RAM on the 7490?

Remove the eight Torx screws on the base, lift the cover carefully, then press the SO-DIMM modules until they click.

When will the 512GB NVMe SSD typically need replacement under normal workloads?

NVMe endurance varies, but a 512GB drive in this class usually lasts several years before wear-leveling reserves are exhausted.
