Dell Latitude 7490 business laptop

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 13.9 inch business laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U processor running at 1.90GHz. It ships with 8GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe drive. The non-touch display offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution driven by Intel UHD Graphics 620. A webcam is included for video calls.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This laptop suits professionals needing a portable Windows machine with a high-resolution screen and fast NVMe storage for office applications. Buyers who want more storage capacity or a touchscreen interface should look at other models. Anyone requiring discrete graphics performance for creative workloads or gaming will need a different system.

Memory expansion ceiling

The system supports a maximum of 32GB across two slots with one slot currently free, so the 8GB installed can be expanded significantly. This single limit decides whether the laptop can handle heavier multitasking or virtual machines in the future.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 8 GB model or upgrade to the 32 GB maximum?

The laptop ships with 8 GB in one of two slots; adding a second module later can bring total memory to the supported 32 GB ceiling.

What does the 1.90 GHz Core i7-8650U deliver in daily office work?

Four cores and eight threads at 1.90 GHz base clock handle spreadsheets, email and video calls smoothly, while Intel UHD Graphics 620 drives the 1920 x 1080 panel.

The NVMe interface lets the 512 GB solid-state drive boot Windows and load large files noticeably quicker than a traditional hard disk.
