Professional mobility

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch business laptop built around an Intel Core i7-8650U processor running at 1.9GHz. It ships with 16GB of memory and a 256GB PCIe NVMe solid-state drive. Windows 10 Pro is installed and activated. The matte black chassis houses a non-touch FHD display at 1920 x 1080 resolution. It suits professionals who need a compact, managed device for office applications and cloud workflows. Buyers who want a dedicated graphics card or a touchscreen should consider other lines.

Thermals and power

The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 shares system memory and keeps power draw low during typical productivity tasks. The quad-core Kaby Lake R CPU operates within a slim ultrabook thermal envelope. Fan noise stays modest when handling documents, email and browser tabs. Sustained heavy loads will raise temperatures and spin the fan higher. The 256GB NVMe SSD produces no mechanical noise and adds minimal heat.

Included accessories

Each unit arrives with a functional battery and an AC adapter that may be a new third-party unit or a used OEM part. A fresh installation of Windows 10 Pro is the only software provided. The supplier notes that every laptop undergoes functionality testing before dispatch and is backed by a 90-day warranty. Cosmetic rejuvenation has been performed, though subtle signs of prior use may remain. No docking station, stylus or recovery media are mentioned.

Questions about this item

How do I install a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro on the 256GB NVMe drive?

Boot from a USB Windows 10 Pro installer, select the 256GB NVMe drive as the target, and let setup create its own partitions; the step people miss is enabling UEFI boot mode in BIOS so the NVMe drive becomes bootable.

Which component will need replacement first — the battery or the SSD?

The battery will need replacement first; lithium-ion cells lose capacity after several hundred charge cycles, while the 256GB NVMe SSD is rated for many terabytes written and typically outlasts the battery.

What performance limit appears first during a long video-encoding session?

The quad-core i7-8650U reaches its thermal ceiling first, causing the processor to reduce clock speeds before the Intel UHD Graphics 620 or the 256GB NVMe SSD become bottlenecks.
