Compact business laptop

The HP EliteBook 820 G2 is a 12.5 inch HD laptop built for mobile professionals who need a lightweight Windows 10 Pro machine with a fingerprint reader and docking connector. Its dual-core Intel Core i5-5300U processor reaches 2.9 GHz turbo frequency and includes 4 MB of L3 cache for responsive office workloads.

Cooling and power profile

The low-power Broadwell U-series chip runs at a 2.3 GHz base clock so thermals stay modest and fan noise remains low during typical document and web work. Shared system memory feeds the Intel HD Graphics 5500 without a discrete GPU adding heat or draw.

Upgrade context

This unit ships with 8 GB of DDR3 memory and an upgraded 256 GB SSD replacing the original drive for faster boot and application load times. Buyers who want more storage or a higher-resolution display should look elsewhere. The jump from a mechanical drive to this SSD is worth it for quicker daily responsiveness.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 256 GB SSD in the EliteBook 820 G2, and which step is often missed?

The supplier opens the sealed box to fit the upgraded 256 GB SSD before shipping, so the drive is already installed and recognised by Windows 10 Pro when you first power on.

What maintenance or replacement will the 8 GB DDR3 memory need later?

The 8 GB DDR3 is soldered and cannot be upgraded; if capacity becomes limiting you would need a different system rather than a module swap.

What limit appears first when the Core i5-5300U runs at 2.9 GHz turbo for long periods?

The dual-core processor shares system memory with the Intel HD Graphics 5500, so sustained heavy workloads are constrained by thermal headroom and shared video memory bandwidth.
