Business laptop with 14.0-inch FHD screen

The Dell Latitude 7490 is a 14.0-inch laptop powered by an Intel Core i7-8650U processor. It comes with 8GB DDR4 memory and a 512GB M.2 SATA SSD. The Full HD display offers 1920 x 1080 resolution. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed for professional use.

Suits mobile professionals needing core ports

This device suits users who need HDMI output for presentations and Thunderbolt 3 for docks or high-speed storage. The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 620 handles office workloads and video playback. Buyers who want a touchscreen or a dedicated graphics card should look elsewhere. The non-touch display and integrated GPU limit creative or gaming use.

Quad-core CPU with 4.2 GHz boost clock

The Intel Core i7-8650U provides four cores and eight threads with a base frequency of 1.9 GHz and a maximum turbo of 4.2 GHz. This clock speed headroom determines how well the laptop sustains performance under load. If your workflow demands higher sustained multi-core speeds, this processor may not meet the requirement.

Questions about this item

How long can the Core i7-8650U sustain its 4.2 GHz Turbo Boost before thermal throttling reduces the clock speed?

The quad-core processor has an 8 MB smart cache and runs at a base frequency of 1.9 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.2 GHz; sustained all-core loads will eventually drop clocks as the slim chassis exhausts its thermal headroom.

What is the typical fan noise and surface temperature when the laptop runs a full-day workload?

Under continuous load the integrated UHD 620 graphics and CPU share the same cooling solution, so fan speed rises and the keyboard deck warms noticeably after several hours of heavy use.

Which dock or adapter is required to drive two external monitors from the single Thunderbolt 3 port?

A Thunderbolt 3 dock with dual DisplayPort or HDMI outputs is needed; the built-in HDMI port can drive one display, while the USB-C connection handles the second via DisplayPort Alt Mode.
